Creamy Greek Yogurt Veggie Dip | High-Protein & Easy Snack
Okay, can we be honest about veggie trays for a second?
You know the ones at parties โ baby carrots and celery that have been sitting out for three hours, and that weird ranch dip from a packet that tastes mostly like salt and regret. People take the carrots because they feel like they should, not because they want to. Iโve been that person hovering over the veggie tray pretending Iโm being healthy while secretly wishing it was the chips and dip.
This Greek yogurt veggie dip is the one that actually makes people want the veggies.
Itโs creamy but not heavy, tangy from Greek yogurt and lemon, herby from fresh dill and chives and parsley, garlicky but not โI need gum for three daysโ garlicky, with a little olive oil for richness and cracked pepper on top. It tastes like ranchโs cooler, fresher cousin who actually goes to farmers markets. My kids dip carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, pita, crackers, and once my daughter tried to dip her apple slice and I didnโt even stop her because it was actually kind of good.
And it takes 5 minutes. Like, literally stir yogurt plus herbs plus garlic powder plus salt and pepper in a jar and shake. No blender, no cooking, no โlet it sit overnightโ unless you want deeper flavor, which you do, but you donโt have to.
This is the dip that lives in my fridge now. I make a big jar Sunday and we eat it all week.
Letโs make the veggie dip that makes veggies the good part.
Creamy, herby, tangy โ the veggie dip that actually makes people want the veggie tray.
Why Greek Yogurt Makes Better Dip (And Why I Donโt Miss Ranch Packets)
1. Creamy without mayo overload. Classic veggie dip is mostly mayo plus sour cream. This one is mostly Greek yogurt โ 1 cup yogurt plus a little Neufchatel or cream cheese if you want extra creamy, but you can do all yogurt. Itโs still creamy, but lighter, plus protein. My version has like 11g protein per half cup, not that youโre counting, but youโre also not feeling heavy after.
2. Fresh herbs do all the work. Dried dill works in pinch, but fresh dill plus chives plus parsley plus little grated carrot and finely diced celery gives it crunch, color, fresh pop. It tastes like garden, not packet.
3. Lemon zest and juice brighten it. That little 1 tsp lemon zest plus 1 tbsp lemon juice cuts through creamy and makes it taste fresh, not flat. Donโt skip.
4. 5 minutes and it gets better as it sits. Mix now, tastes good now. Mix and fridge 10-15 minutes, even better. Make it in morning for party in afternoon and itโs perfect.
What You Need
Makes about 1 1/2 cups โ 6-8 servings as dip
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt โ 2% or full-fat for best taste, nonfat works but a bit tarter. I like 2% or 5% Fage. Dairy-free Greek-style yogurt works too for dairy-free version
- 8 oz Neufchatel cheese or cream cheese, softened to room temp โ optional but makes it extra creamy and thick like classic veggie dip. If you want lighter, skip and use all yogurt, or use 1/2 cup yogurt plus 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup finely grated carrots โ secret crunch and sweetness and color, use small holes on grater
- 3 tbsp finely diced celery โ tiny dice, so little crunch in every bite
- 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp finely chopped chives โ plus extra for garnish
- 1 tsp lemon zest plus 1 tbsp lemon juice โ fresh, not bottled, zest first then juice
- 1 tsp dried dill or 1 tbsp fresh dill chopped โ I do fresh dill because itโs brighter, but dried works in pinch, use 1 tsp dried. Or fresh parsley if you donโt like dill
- Salt and pepper to taste โ start with 1/4 tsp salt and pinch pepper, then adjust
- Optional flavor boosters: 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp Italian seasoning, pinch cayenne, or splash olive oil for richness
Thatโs it. Fridge plus herb drawer plus lemon.
Greek yogurt, cream cheese, carrots, celery, chives, lemon, dill โ fridge staples that turn into party dip.
How to Make Greek Yogurt Veggie Dip
Total time: 5 minutes | One bowl or one jar with lid
Step 1: Soften cream cheese if using
If using Neufchatel or cream cheese, let it sit out room temp 15 minutes so it blends smooth, not lumpy. If you forgot, microwave 10 seconds.
Step 2: Mix
In large bowl or mason jar, combine Greek yogurt, softened Neufchatel, grated carrots, diced celery, chopped chives, lemon zest plus juice, dill. Add garlic powder and onion powder if using.
Stir with fork or shake jar with lid tight until well combined. Taste, season with salt and pepper. If you like thinner, add splash water or olive oil. If you like thicker, add more yogurt.
It should be creamy, speckled with green herbs and orange carrot, smell like fresh garden.
Shake jar or stir with fork โ 5 minutes and itโs done, but 10 minutes in fridge makes flavors pop.
Step 3: Let it sit if you can
Dip tastes best after standing 10 minutes โ flavors meld, dill blooms, garlic softens. If you have time, cover and fridge 30-60 minutes for deeper flavor. If youโre hungry now, eat now, itโs still good.
Shake or stir again before serving, top with extra chives, dill, cracked pepper, drizzle olive oil if youโre fancy.
Serve with carrot sticks, cucumber slices, bell pepper strips, celery, pita chips, crackers, pretzels โ whatever needs dipping.
That dip-to-veggie ratio โ creamy, herby, tangy, crunchy. Kids actually fight over carrots now.
My Tips So Yours Is Creamy Not Watery or Bland
- Full-fat or 2% Greek yogurt tastes best. Nonfat works but is tarter and thinner. If using nonfat, add that Neufchatel for creaminess or drain yogurt in cheesecloth 10 minutes to thicken.
- Finely grate carrots, tiny dice celery. Big chunks sink and make dip watery. Fine grate and tiny dice distribute evenly and add subtle sweetness and crunch, not big raw chunks.
- Fresh herbs over dried if you can. Fresh dill is bright and grassy, dried dill is more muted. If using dried, use 1 tsp dried equals 1 tbsp fresh, so use less dried. Fresh parsley works too if dill isnโt your thing.
- Lemon zest before juice. Zest lemon first, then juice it โ way easier. Zest adds brightness without extra liquid that thins dip.
- Salt at end. Yogurt and cheese have salt, plus Parmesan if you add later. Season lightly, taste, then add more. Too much salt early and you canโt fix it.
- Make it thicker or thinner your way. Too thick? Splash water or olive oil. Too thin? Add more Greek yogurt or a spoonful cream cheese. You control it.
Variations Because I Never Make It Same Twice
Ranch-ish: Add 1 tsp dried dill plus 1 tsp onion powder plus 1 tsp garlic powder plus 1 tsp Italian seasoning plus 1 tbsp chives โ tastes like ranch but fresh, no packet.
Herby jalapeรฑo: Add 1/2 jalapeรฑo seeded and minced plus 1/2 cup cilantro plus 5 mint leaves plus 2 tbsp olive oil plus lime juice plus pinch curry powder โ blend cilantro, mint, jalapeรฑo, oil into chunky pesto, swirl into yogurt. Spicy, herby, amazing for summer.
Protein-packed: Use 2 cups Greek yogurt plus pinch salt, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, chives โ 11g protein per 1/2 cup, low carb, perfect for post-workout.
Veggie-loaded: Add finely grated carrots plus celery plus chives plus lemon zest plus lemon juice plus dill โ my favorite, colorful and crunchy in every bite.
No cream cheese? Use all Greek yogurt โ 1 cup plain regular or Greek 2% plus dill plus garlic powder plus salt โ 5 ingredients, super easy.
Dairy-free: Use dairy-free Greek-style yogurt plus olive oil instead of cream cheese, still creamy and tangy.

Storage
- Fridge: Airtight container, 3-4 days. Actually gets better day 2 as herbs meld. Stir before serving, add splash water if thickened.
- Donโt freeze: Yogurt and cream cheese separate and get watery and grainy when frozen and thawed. Make fresh, itโs 5 minutes.
- Make-ahead for party: Make in morning, keep covered fridge until party, stir and add fresh herbs on top for pretty. Veggies cut morning of, keep in water with ice in fridge to stay crisp.
FAQ
Can I use regular yogurt instead of Greek?
Yes, but regular is thinner and more watery. Use 2% or higher fat, and drain in cheesecloth 15 minutes or use less โ 3/4 cup regular equals 1 cup Greek thickness. Greek is thicker and higher protein.
My dip is too tangy โ help?
Greek yogurt is tangy. Add tiny drizzle honey or pinch sugar, or more olive oil for richness to balance. Or add more grated carrots โ sweetness cuts tang.
Can I make it without cream cheese?
Absolutely โ use all Greek yogurt. 1 cup yogurt plus dill plus garlic powder plus salt equals 5-ingredient healthy veggie dip, super easy, 30 calories per 1/4 cup.
What if I donโt like dill?
Use fresh parsley or chives or Italian seasoning. Dill is classic veggie dip herb, but parsley is milder and still fresh.
Is it gluten-free, low carb?
Yes โ naturally gluten-free, low carb if you use plain Greek yogurt, about 2g carbs per serving. Perfect for low carb snack.
This is the dip that made my kids actually excited about carrot sticks. Which is a sentence I never thought Iโd say, but here we are.
If you make it, tell me โ did you go full herby dill or ranch-ish version? And did your kids dip their apple slices in it too? Mine did and Iโm still not over it.
Greek Yogurt
Veggie Dip
Creamy, herby, tangy, and fresh โ this easy Greek yogurt veggie dip takes just 5 minutes to make and is perfect for dipping raw vegetables, pita chips, crackers, or pretzels.
Ingredients
Instructions
If using Neufchatel or cream cheese, let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes so it blends smoothly without leaving lumps.
Add the Greek yogurt, softened cream cheese, grated carrot, diced celery, chives, lemon zest, lemon juice, and dill to a mixing bowl.
Add the garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning (if using). Add salt and black pepper to taste.
Stir everything together with a spoon or whisk until smooth and well combined. (If using a mason jar, secure the lid and shake vigorously until thoroughly mixed).
Let the dip sit for about 10 minutes before serving. For an even deeper flavor, cover and refrigerate for 30โ60 minutes.
Stir once more, then garnish with extra chives, dill, cracked black pepper, or a small drizzle of olive oil. Serve with your favorite veggies or crackers!
Kitchen Notes
If the dip is too thick, add a small splash of water or olive oil. If it is too thin, stir in a little more Greek yogurt or cream cheese.
For the creamiest texture, use 2% or full-fat Greek yogurt. However, for a lighter, tangier dip, you can skip the cream cheese entirely and use just Greek yogurt!
Fresh dill gives the brightest, most refreshing flavor, but dried dill works perfectly fine if that’s what you have in the pantry.
Love ranch? Amp up the flavor by doubling the garlic powder, onion powder, and dill, and be sure to include the optional Italian seasoning.
Fresh Veggies:
- Carrot sticks & Celery
- Cucumber slices
- Bell pepper strips
- Cherry tomatoes, Radishes, Broccoli
Crunchy Snacks:
- Pita chips, Pretzels, Bagel chips
Bonus Tip: This dip works amazingly as a spread for sandwiches, baked potatoes, toast, or grilled chicken!
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3โ4 days. Give it a good stir before serving again.
Do not freeze this dip! The Greek yogurt and cream cheese will separate and become grainy and watery when thawed.
Exact nutritional values will vary significantly depending on the fat percentage of your Greek yogurt and whether or not you choose to include the cream cheese.
